Doing my own thing

well, not entirely... the card for today is actually created for the Hero Arts blog. this week it's all about "fun with photos". it's quite coincidental that they have this theme going on because last week i was looking at a photo my hubby took and thinking how much i'd like to make it into a card. and what should i read about on monday morning's blog post at Hero Arts but the use of photos on cards! so that is what i did today - made a card from the gorgeous black & white lily photo i was lovingly admiring last week.

i have been in love with this large background stamp from Hero Arts for quite a while now, and seeing it used everywhere was making me rather jealous of all those stampers who had their hot little hands on it. it's 4 1/2 x 5 3/4 which makes it perfect for covering a whole 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 card face! so today on a little shopping spree with my stamping friend Rieca (who has her own lovely blog here) i saw the stamp on the shelf and swooped in to grab it! AND got it for 40% off too (along with 3 other wicked Hero stamps, i might add!). aren't i the happy little stamper?!

does anyone follow the Moxie Fab World blog? i haven't been playing along for very long yet, but i've come to really like Cath's sense of humour and way of 'speaking'. she really seems to have fun with her blog. she is affiliated with Paper Crafts Magazine, who also have a great blog. plenty of contests and giveaways! i really wish i was at a level where i could be giving away blog candy... maybe someday! we all have our dreams - mine is to be a full-time crafter and make a career (plus a decent living!) out of it. so we shall see what "the cards" hold for me. (the rubber stamped cards, that is! grin...)

stuff used:
paper...
Halcraft USA - 6 1/2 x 5 card & envelope set
white cs (to make photo corners)
semi-gloss photo paper
stamps...
Hero Arts - manuscript background and designblock dots & flowers
ink...
Brilliance - moonlight white
versamark
extras...
white ep
Jolee's dimensional stickers - wedding dress
Michaels ribbon - mid-width white
Flourishes ribbon - black polkadot
Fiskars corner edgers - nostalgia

some of my other creations

check out my new blinkie on the right... i made it into the top trio this past week for 365 Cards! yipee!

today i want to show you some of the other stuff i like to create. for the past few years i have been making these really cute magnet sets and keychains out of dominoes, as well as coasters that are stamped and made from tiles. check out the pics below... i'll be adding the domino items to my ETSY store, but not the coasters. they'd be way to expensive to ship. heavy little suckers!

i`ve been selling these at some local craft fairs for the last few years, and people really dig them! they make great little gifts, and for $6-$10 how can you go wrong...
i sure hope the online shoppers feel the same way! (grin)

And it's done...

and so i've finished - and just in time to get my butt downstairs to make dinner! i am totally digging the new Basic Grey paper called "Lime Rickey". the colours are so much fun! i want to get the brads, buttons, everything!

i know why i've never really played around with paper piecing - i hate cutting out! i discovered it nearly drives me to drink. actually today it did - my hubby mixed me a fab cocktail of ginseng iced tea & vodka. super yum! i really respect those people who can cut out endless pieces to make great cards. i only did her purse and pants. that was enough for me. sigh...

so enjoy your saturday night - i'm gonna go do some cookin in the kitchen and probably watch a movie with the man tonight. tomorrow i'll continue to build my ETSY store. haven't sold anything yet, but come on - it's only been a couple of days!

cheers!

I'll Drink to That!

ah.... saturday! a lazy morning of drinking tea, reading email, and crafting the time away. what could be better? throw in a good breakie, and i'll be complete!

this card today is for day 119 on 365 Cards - Seeing a Silhouette. i got this cute little A Muse stamp a fair time ago and have never used it! when i saw the challenge for today was a silhouette image, that stamp sprang to mind immediately!
i am still one card short for this week. i have not done much paper piecing so i'm struggling with picking a decent stamp to work with. once i get it done and post it today, i'll have completed the full week for my 2nd week in a row! is that a testament to the fact that i've been spending too much time stamping and not enough time working? who cares? i'm happy... (grin)

i mentioned before about this cute little easel i bought at IKEA for $0.99. seriously... and it's so fun to work with! i setup a whiteboard to place it on, and get a great clean background for my pics. today's seems really grainy for some reason. not sure why, since i'm using the same settings as usual. but i'm certainly not the world's best photographer. (i'll leave that to my husband!) if you want to check out his website of fab photography, go ahead to his site at www.3rdmp.com. he rocks! not just as a photographer, but as a husband too. i can't help but smile and get all gushy when i think about him. i'll depart on that note and leave you for now my fellow bloggers!

stuff used:
paper...
Basic Grey - Sugared 6x6 paper pad
white, chocolate & pale pink cs
stamps...
Hero Arts - polka dot pattern
A Muse - party silhouette
ink...
ColorBox Chalk - chestnut roan
Brilliance - lightning black
extras...
chocolate brad
Basic Grey - Sugared brad set
Prima - pink flower
Recollections - chocolate flowers
EK Success - corner rounder

I've Been Framed!

hey bloggers! TGIF!
isn't it fun to be a blogger? i haven't been doing this for very long, but i totally dig it! checking out other people's stuff, and knowing that people from all over are checking out mine! it's pretty cool how i can stay 'in touch' with people who are into the same things i really love. the internet is such a fab bit of technology! a total understatement, i know...

so for today i've got 2 cards for the 365 Cards challenge. it's day 118 - I've Been Framed. using a frame on a card is such a fab way to showcase some little (or large!) item on your cardfront. it can be pretty simple or very involved. i made 2 cards and couldn't decide which 1 i like better cuz they're both cute for different reasons. so you get to see both! who says i can't share lots of stuff with you all?! hehehe!

i have a stack of these little slide frames in all different colours (shown on my 2nd card) that i got ages ago and i haven't made a shaker card in a long time so i thought that might be nice idea. i can't wait to go to 365's website and check what everyone else created!

stuff used: (card #1)
paper...
Basic Grey - Blush 6x6 paper pad
chocolate & orange cs
stamps...
surprisingly, none!
extras...
Prima - Iced Got Flowers? in rosy red jar
pale blue brads
Slice - noteworthy design card (for frame)
Cuttlebug - ornamental corners
ProvoCraft - scallop edge scissors
EK Success - corner rounder

card #2:
paper...
chocolate, cocoa, pale cocoa and speckled blue cs
stamps...
Clearly Impressed - Time clear stamp set
Hampton Art Stamps - woman collage/passport
Hero Arts - manuscript background
ink...
Brilliance - pearlescent beige, olive & chocolate
extras...
pearl white slide frame
mini beads
Michaels ribbon - dashes, dots & checks (brown & blue)
EK Success - corner rounder & ribbon slide punch

have a fantabulous weekend everyone! see you back here on the blog...

365 Cards - day 117

simply stamped... today's challenge at 365 Cards. you can use only 1 stamped image and 1 sentiment. it's not so easy to do this when you're used to (and LOVE) using all kinds of embellishments, patterned papers, ribbon... creating CAS can be a toughy! (by the way, CAS stands for 'clean and simple' - although most of you probably know this lingo already!)

instead of colouring with copics or keeping it to a plain stamped image, i just HAD to do something a little more spiffy! i used my plethora of stickles and filled in the 'holes' in the butterfly's wings. i don't get to use them often on such a large scale so i think this worked out wonderfully! it's pretty, and keeps in line with the challenge. simple, yet lovely.

off to do some errands - i still haven't uploaded images to my ETSY store because i have to figure out shipping costs first. which means i've gotta research Canada Post's charges, and how much envelopes will cost me, etc etc. it seems never ending! but by the end of today i intend to have cards (and other fun stuff!) on my etsy store for purchase. yipee!!

stuff used:
paper...
bright orange, pale aqua, and clear (acrylic) cs
stamps...
Magenta - large butterfly
Inkadinkadoo - Chelsea sentiments
ink...
StazOn - jet black & teal blue
extras...
Stickles - multi colours

Hero Arts helpful hints

Hero Arts has long been a favorite of mine, both for their products and the ideas they share on the website and on the blog. their blog is great - there are postings each day except for sunday and it's fun to follow along with the weekly challenges. i'm a little behind this week and haven't done a card for them yet, but i'll get to it soon. they have a flickr group that i belong to for sharing card images. check mine out here!

i just finished watching a video on today's Hero Arts Club blog, and it's about tying ribbon and sewing on buttons. i found it really cute and helpful so i'm sharing it with you all.

The Wedding March

today's post is for 365 Cards. it's day 116, and the theme is to make a wedding card without using a sentiment - the design should speak for itself. i haven't had much occasion to use this cute stamp of a bride & groom... how much more self-explanatory could a card get?! hehehe!

i am just doing a quick post today. i feel really tired from lack of sleep last night so i've gotta peel my eyes away from the monitor and do something else for a while.

Still in baby mode...

hey y'all! how goes the battle? i've been spending time the last couple of days 'takin care of business', so to speak. i'm bringing my cards to the gallery tomorrow - hope they sell quickly so i can bring in some more! (grin)
once i finish this post i'm heading down to make some dindin... i'm starving! i can't believe how the hours fly by while i'm sitting here crafting my little heart out! i spent mega time last night taking photos and editing them to prep for the grand opening of my ETSY store. i'm really excited! there's lots to read thru, but i hope it's worth the time. they don't charge much for listing items, so i think it'll be worth the time invested. my hubby gets home tonight from his 'work' trip of golfing and quadding, so he'll help me with the technical side of things. i need to make a banner for my etsy store and can't seem to figure it out. feel free to pop over there and check out my listings! craftygirlcards.etsy.com

Lovely Lavender

i have always loved the smell of lavender, and that colour is just so sweet and romantic! i'm starting off the week with this smell in my nostrils, emanating up from my craft desk for the card i'm submitting to today's 365 Cards challenge - day 114 - Lovin' Lavender!

the card is completly CAS, but the multi layers of lavender, and even lavender buds glued into the shape of a heart, make this a very romantic card in my eyes. perhaps i'll try another and strive to NOT make it a romantic-themed card this time around.

stuff used:
dark & light lavender cs
pale lavender shimmer cs (kinda looks white here...)
lavender mulberry paper
McCormick Gourmet - jarred lavender buds (from the spice aisle!)
deckle edge scissors

Beloved Baby card

good evening! i'm just a card-making fool today... can't stop myself - i think i'm addicted to challenges. help me help me! (grin)

i keep telling myself i'll go make dinner in just 10 more minutes - but i've been saying that for the past hour and a 1/2. now that i finished up this next card for yesterday's Cardvaarks challenge, i can post it and go eat! a simple prawn alfredo awaits me in the kitchen - well at least the ingredients do!

Cardvaarks
posts new challenges the 5th and 20th of each month. i almost forgot to go and check this time around! only 1 day late to check it out, that's not too bad. they give you plenty of time to enter, but i'm such a keener i like to get my name in there early. perhaps i should subscribe and get the emails when the new postings happen!

the challenge is to make a window card, and i was in a baby mood today (plus my baby embellishments are all over my craft desk from the last card challenge i posted) so i made another baby girl card. it's good to have some in the stash. you never know when you'll need one!

Basic Grey - Gypsy 6x6 paper pad
Brilliance ink - pearlescent jade, orange & coral

Sweet Baby Girl

my friend just had a baby last week, and i've been meaning to make a card and get it in the mail. today's challenge on 365 Cards for day 113 - Super Sketchy Sunday for some reason inspired me to make it into a baby card. i'm not sure what it was about it that inspired this... but thank goodness it did!

the clouds are rolling away this afternoon and it's looking fairly sunny out. from the way it was this morning i was sure it would pour rain all day. looks like i should get out there and take a walk on the dyke. we have a great walking/biking trail that leads along the water for many kilometres and there's so much to see there! there is a heritage farm, a beach, a dock where swans swim around... it's wonderful! gonna have some lunch and head out there. enjoy your day!

kwerner blog challenge

yet another post for today - just had to get in on colour challenge #55 over at kwernerdesign.com. not sure how i missed it yesterday when it got posted since i did check her site. i guess she posted it later after i'd already had a look...

i like to be at least in the top 20 so a few more people might be inclined to pop over to my blog and check me out, but what can you do? there's so many challenges i love to follow you just can't make that many cards that quickly!

hope you enjoy this one. it's not so easy to use grey, but this colour scheme works alright i think!

take care - i'm off to watch some tellie and take a break from the computer. too many hours spent hiding away in my hobby room today!

cheers!

Lounging on a Saturday...

good afternoon out there in blogger-land!

i've been trying to balance the creativity with the labour side of things today. if i can get things off the ground with my craft business then i'll be the happiest little crafter in the world! i'm still prepping the cards i plan to bring to the art gallery to sell, and getting in touch with the contacts i made at the gallery this past week. keeping my fingers crossed that i'll sell them some of my stuff!

with this card, i've managed to do all the challenges for this week at 365 Cards - first time since i started playing along! today's card had to use bold colours and stripes, and i think this fits the bill. i think the colour magenta really pops! i've been dreaming of a beach vacation (but of course being unemployed that isn't gonna happen any time soon!) so i guess beachy items have been on my mind lately. a wonderful cocktail while sitting by the pool, slipping on the flip flops and walking on the beach... what could be better?!

finally it's Friday!

happy friday! it's weird that even though i'm not working right now, i still long for fridays to come along! maybe it's more for my husband so that he can be home hanging out with me. except for this weekend - he's off on a boys' weekend of quading and golfing. but i'm not jealous... really!! (grin)

today's card was made for this week's challenge on the Hero Arts blog. they had a Win-A-Day on the blog contest, and chose 5 readers/card contributors to each get a day on the blog with one of the Hero Arts design team artists all this past week. what a cool contest hey?!

i have been working on wedding themed cards the past couple of days as i will be taking cards to sell at a cool art gallery downtown called eclektica. i was there on wednesday night for a wine tasting & networking event, so i did some... networking! hopefully some card sales will come of it!

have a fab weekend! i hope we have some nice weather - heard it might rain here. if it shines i'm going to break away from my craft desk (for a little while at least!) and hang out in the yard under the umbrella, a nice cold bevvie by my side!

Playing with Colours & Patterns

i might be a day behind now, but i'm determined to post a card for each day's challenge this week on 365 Cards. i am showing you 2 cards today, one for yesterday (day 109) for this colour challenge that has to be a feminine card:

and one for today's challenge for day 110 called My Guy,
which has to be masculine (obviously!) and use an argyle pattern. i mailed my dad his card last week (he's in whitehorse, yukon) but i wish i could give him this one! i love love love the way it turned out...

i sure hope you're having a great week out there in blogger land! today is cloudy here in richmond but still seems fairly warm out. i've yet to start up my etsy store but i'm planning on attacking the challenge this afternoon. i'll keep you posted on how it goes!

Birthday Boy

today's challenge on 365 Cards (yes, that site seems to be a favorite of mine, wouldn't you say?) is to make a birthday card for a boy - not a man. i borrowed a couple of animal stamps from my friend rieca while she's away on vacation with her family, and this was the perfect time to get them out and play!

i got these fantasticly cute animal print papers months ago and sadly they went straight to my stash instead of getting used. the giraffe stamp i borrowed is so cute! i cut out the birthday greeting to look as if he's saying it. a cute touch, if you'll allow me to toot my own horn for a minute! (grin)

and now it's time to go and do some serious work. i signed up on ETSY a while back and have yet to setup my store. i want to give it a go and see how my cards and other stamped products sell. gotta bring home some bacon while i'm not working!

stuff used:

Hero Arts - recycled textured notecards
DCWV - Safari Chic Giraffe paper
Magenta - cork paper
kraft, light cocoa & chocolate cs
Tim Holtz distress ink - walnut stain
PSX - happy birthday stamp
The Artful Stamper - giraffe stamp
Bazzill Basics - monochromatic browns ribbon card
Making Memories - copper brads
Fiskars - deckle paper edgers

Another Sketch Challenge from 365 Cards

okay, so this card might be CAS, but i love the brown & pink colour combo! this pp came from a new 6x6 pad i got recently from Black Market Paper Society and i hadn't used it yet so i had to crack it open this morning. i was trying to find a website for this company to direct you to, but they don't seem to have one! (if i'm wrong, please fill me in...)

i was following the day 106 - super sketchy sunday design from the 365 Cards site this past sunday. i was very literal with my card - followed the sketch to a 'T'.

i really have to go and eat some lunch. seems like if i have something to eat early in the morning, it gets my stomach going full bore and then i need lunch earlier than usual! rather annoying, i must say! it's hard to concentrate on being creative when my tummy is rumbling at me. so i'll say ttfn... i may post again later today if i get some time to do a second card.

stuff used:

parchment, kraft & cocoa cs
BMPS - Rhythm 6x6 paper pad
Horizon Group USA - 'bangle bling' brown ribbon
Bazzill Wings of Imagination - bitty blossoms in 'glow' orange
Bazzill - orange shimmer brad
Slice - noteworthy design card
Fiskars Shape Express - ovals template

pop dots
Brilliance ink - coffee bean

it's Mojo Monday week 91!

i like to take part in Mojo Monday's weekly challenges. ever checked out that site? today is a little unusual as it's quite a different format of card than i usually make, by a long shot! but that is obviously the whole point of partaking in challenges - to make us create something out of our comfort zone and stretch our creative boundaries. i don't know if i'm totally happy with how my card turned out, but i certainly love the patterned papers from basic grey! hope you get a little warm fuzzy when you view it.
happy monday!

stuff used:

The Craft Fair is done

well hello there!
i'm back to my blog after a few days of furiously creating. i had a mini craft fair yesterday and only 2 days notice to get ready, so i had a lot of 'product' to make! i didn't sell very much, but it was nice to be outside for the day and around a bunch of other crafting folk! i got a little too much sun on my nose so that should look attractive when it starts to peel. hehehe!

i made a card today for the 365 Cards challenge. it's already day 107 and "So Girly" is today's theme. how easy is that?! don't we all love making girly cards? all you have to do is have the word 'girl' on your card somewhere, and of course it has to be really girly! pink immediately comes to mind when i think 'girl' so here it is! the background flowery paper came from the packaging of the Justrite Stampers set of centres & borders i just got called 'Girl Time'. i love to recycle whatever i can get my hands on and this paper really worked for today's card challenge!

stuff used:

white, pale pink & hot pink cs
JustRite packaging (as mentioned above)
brilliance ink - pearlescent orchid
StazOn - jet black
Tim Holtz distress ink - fired brick
Stampabilities - luscious lola stamp

In a Rush!

good morning all!
i just got an email last night inviting me last-minute to participate in a craft fair on sunday that i was on a waiting list for. so needless to say i'm in a bit of a panic to make sure i have enough stuff to sell! can't have a 1/2 full table - how sad would that look?

here's a card i made yesterday playing with my Slice and Cuttlebug machines. it is for a Hero Arts challenge this week to make a card using diecuts and at least 1 HA stamp.

i also wanted to share the card i'm mailing my dad for Father's Day next sunday. he lives in whitehorse so i've gotta get it in the post asap! i think i'll make some more 'dad' type cards for the craft fair - they should sell well!

gotta fly - sorry i haven't done the usual "stuff used" but i'm really in a rush today!

cheers!

well i've had such a wonderful weekend hanging out with my sisters and brothers-in-law! we had loads of fun and amazing weather. it actually hit 30 degrees one day! awesome... maybe not so much for the family members out playing golf who tried to fry themselves. grin

being Mojo Monday week# 90, i am back to the blog and creating this morning. i've been avoiding the hunger pangs and just playing at my craft desk to get a card ready for posting! i got some new papers so i grabbed them to try out today.
here's the recipe for this week if you want to give it a shot too. and as for my card...
i took my sis to IKEA so they could look at kitchens (they want to remodel theirs and of course there's no IKEA in whitehorse!) and i picked up this cute little wooden easel for taking photos of my cards. i think it really does the trick!

stuff used:

Black Market Paper Society - Lucky 'n Love 6x6 paper pad
white cs
chocolate brads
Basic Grey - opaline half-pearls in aqua
Scrapworks - Elements vinyl appliques in white
Michael's looped ribboon
Heidi Swapp - edge distresser (used on leaves)
EK Success - corner rounder punch (to make scalloped circle)
Hero Arts stamps - So Many Messages set, polkadot background (for leaves)
StazOn ink in Teal

family pics

so i thought i'd share a pic of Sheila, Vance and their twins since i'm blogging about them today! the canoeing shot was taken almost 2 years ago, but it's one that i adore. Grayson and Greer are identical twins and they're about to turn 14 in august! they are both ballet dancers. my husband matthew & i are going up to the yukon to celebrate with them this summer. i'm a very proud auntie...

A Different Direction

afternoon kids!
today i'm playing in the Raspberry Suite Colour Challenge #8, on dawn mcvey's blog called "my favorite things". she's really into photography and takes some awesome pics! i've been waiting for her to post this challenge cuz she's been promising for a few days that it was coming soon... and today's the day!

stuff used:
Tim Holtz - French Market stamp set
Hero Arts - polkadot background stamp
- embossed cream cs
chocolate & kraft cs
Imaginisce - copper brads
Maya Road - vintage stickpin
Bazzill Basics - monochromatic browns ribbon
jute
Recollections - pink fabric flowers
StazOn - cherry pink ink
Brilliance - pearlescent chocolate
Tim Holzt - Distress ink in vintage photo

today's colours are cream, chocolate, kraft and bright pink. i just got this tim holtz clear stamp set a couple of days ago so i sorta went in a different direction for this challenge cuz i wanted to play with it. i don't usually go for the 'cutsie' look anyway, but collage stamping is a big fave of mine. this set is called french market from his visual artistry collection. i totally dig all things tim holtz, and wish his products were as cheap in canada as they are in the states! the stamp sets cost $24.99 canadian at michael's, but they are only $14.99 at the michael's in bellingham. even with the exchange it's way cheaper. really worth the occasional trip over the border for a little shopping excursion!

my sister Sheila and her husband Vance arrived last night for a 4-day trip from whitehorse (that's in the yukon, for all you americans/others who don't know) to celebrate their anniversary, leaving their twins at home. they have gone out golfing so i'm playing on my own. me and 2 of my sisters all have our anniversaries within 2 weeks of each other (not planned by any means) and we're having a family party on saturday to celebrate all together. our weather is supposed to kick ass so i can't wait to slap on the sunscreen and hang out in my sister's fab yard! my point is that i might not have time to craft-it-up for a couple of days while they're here, but that's because i'll be out having FUN!! a little shopping and perhaps even a spa visit. ahhhhhh, gotta love the spa! the toes could use a pedicure for open-toe shoe season!

cheers!

365 Cards - day 95

hello again! this is getting to be a regular thing... grin!

today's card is for, you guessed it, 365 Cards day 95 challenge to use BLUE, PINK, and ORANGE for Wacky Colour Wednesday. so here's my card. i actually love the pink/orange combo, but adding that touch of blue really pops it!

as i said on yesterday's post, today is my 3rd anniversary so i'm dying for my hubby to get home from work so we can celebrate with a yummy dinner!

i at the moment am jobless. boohoo. never thought the economy would affect my family, but who ever thinks that anyway? i've spent hours today pouring over job postings, so i needed to take a break and do something fun - so i made this card! at least being home has provided me more crafting time, and i got my blog started, so i'm totally happy about that!

stuff used:
DCWV - Citrus stack
Bazzill Basics - pink & blue textured cs
Unity Stamps - 'be the change' stamp
Hero Arts - mini swirls stamp
pink & orange embroidery thread
Imaginisce - pink & blue brads
EK Success - scallop & diamond border punch

Making Memories - paper piercer
